4. Overview
The Japan Coast Guard, under the framework of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), conducted the Knowledge Co-Creation Program (Country focus) on "Search and Rescue, Marine Environment Protection and Disaster Prevention, and Trajectory Prediction" as a capacity building support for the Vietnam Coast Guard in collaboration with JICA Yokohama.
In order to provide the participants with essential knowledge and skills necessary to respond to maritime accidents and natural disasters, including maritime rescue operations, as well as to have them acquire maritime environmental conservation and drift prediction, specialized lectures were conducted.
Additionally, the participants visited Japan Coast Guard-related facilities and patrol vessel.
After returning to their country, the participants are expected to apply the knowledge and skills gained during the training to their agency to contribute to their policy developments, capacity building, and operational improvement in their organization.
The JCG will continue to strengthen cooperation and collaboration with the coast guard agencies of other countries to realize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, while promoting capacity-building support for countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
